Default A bit breezy up there

Although it's somewhat draughty down here in Cambridge, up where the Jocks are strapping it is altogether distinctly breezy.. There's a nice report and some good pictures on the Beeb at http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-16079849 and http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-16094360. Look at image 13 in the second of those links to see how well wind turbines stand up to a stiff breeze.

Apparently a gust has been clocked at ~165mph --- over 260kph --- on one mountain top and at ~130mph (~210kph) at a popular ski resort.

About the wind turbine: the shutdown system failed when critical wind speed was reached, it's a very good picture. Thank you.

As an erstwhile sailor and one who has visited
the summit of Cairngorm, my guess is "shurely shome mishtake".

yeah well apparently a storm that just rolled through here knocked down or broke 10 power poles in a row like matchsticks threw scaffolding off a building into a window and car shutting down traffic, hurricane strength winds and close to category 2 gust in one place and in nearby provinces a major bridge shut down, 15 cm of snow and something like 54,000 without power total. though your broken wind turbines suck as well.
