Colonel James Ketchum, 87.
He was head of the psychopharmacology branch at Edgewood Arsenal, during the Edgewood Arsenal human experiments. A transcript of an interview with the author of the New Yorker article Operation Delirium may also be of interest. |

For anyone interested in the history, the biography of Alan Turing by Andrew Hodges is scholarly and well worth reading: https://www.turing.org.uk/
The play/TV film Breaking the Code is also worthwhile, but I would not recommend the Imitation Game film. |

Prime Minister Gordon Brown issued a public apology in September 2009.
Turing was also given a posthumous royal pardon on December 24, 2013 (and you can click on a link to see a .JPG of the actual pardon). The long campaign to get the pardon had failed as recently as the previous year, as described here: Quote:
The quality of mercy is not strained. It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven Upon the place beneath. It is twice blest: It blesseth him that gives and him that takes. 'Tis mightiest in the mightiest; it becomes The thronèd monarch better than his crown. His scepter shows the force of temporal power, The attribute to awe and majesty Wherein doth sit the dread and fear of kings; But mercy is above this sceptered sway. It is enthronèd in the hearts of kings; It is an attribute to God Himself; And earthly power doth then show likest God's When mercy seasons justice. Therefore, Jew, Though justice be thy plea, consider this: That in the course of justice none of us Should see salvation. We do pray for mercy, And that same prayer doth teach us all to render The deeds of mercy. I have spoke thus much To mitigate the justice of thy plea, Which, if thou follow, this strict court of Venice Must needs give sentence 'gainst the merchant there. — Portia (The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare; Act 4, Scene 1) Last fiddled with by Dr Sardonicus on 2019-06-09 at 13:44 Reason: As indicated |
