LaurV and Prime95 comments are most appreciated. Exactly as you guys said; customizing report provides lifetime rank.
As for the rank and GHz, people love to see that their contribution is valued even with really meaningless rank. I was involved with the project way before May 2010 when I 'joined' v5. I was sending George results by e-mail and he was (at that time) replying with thank you notes. I still keep some of those e-mails somewhere... Have I been member of v4? No idea. Is there a way to retrieve old (v4) password? My goal with this project is to use unused CPU cycles AND if something good come of it, even better. Money? Well, if I expect any payout of this I have better chance if I start playing lotto or digging for gold in my backyard. For few years I was doing folding-at-home but that project become so unreliable while reporting results and retrieving new work that I gave up; if my PC spends weeks working on some protein and my only 'reward' is 'sorry, work is not recognized', well... Here at least I can manually assign work and report it. What will be really interesting (and stimulating) if organizers of this prime search come up with nice little milestone pins. Something like user Prime95 has as an avatar. Different colors for donated 1000, 5000, 25000, etc. GHz. |

P95, just to keep things straight:
ckdo has me TF'ing on exponents that are coming up for LL-D, and I am finding factors here and there. What happens to someone's first-time LL credit if I find a factor? Thanks P.S. Curtisc has a large farm (I think a university's worth) of PCs. In the world of TF, GPUs scream compared to CPUs, but the GHz-day system has not been adjusted to compensate -- so I get 45GHz-days per day on a single GTX440, which is an unremarkable, mid range $100US GPU. |
