Default Long hot summer...

We've had a couple of days when the temperature reached ~ 30 (Celsius).
here in sunny UK.
Good excuse for rioting in the streets.

Psst. Twitter. I've heard there may be a few GPUs going for

Following is the most recent update we have received from our SDG&E Account Representative:
Quote:
SDG&Eβ€˜s electrical system, which includes San Diego and southern Orange counties, is without power. At this time, we do not know the direct cause of the widespread outage.

What we can tell you now is that the California Independent System Operator says there currently is an issue on the interconnected grid. Apparently, the problems started at 3:38 p.m. with a major transmission outage in western Arizona that caused a loss of power to Southern California.

Shortly afterward, the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station shut down. As a result, we did not have adequate resources on our system to keep the power on across our service territory. We are working now with Edison to try to get power from the north to the power plant in Carlsbad.

We also are working with APS (Arizona Public Service) to restore service to the 500-kV line in Arizona to bring in power across the Southwest Powerlink to the southern part of our service territory.

SDG&E’s Grid Operations has instituted our system recovery plan, which will include a systematic restoration of power.

You should expect an extended outage that could last into the night and possibly into tomorrow as we bring the system up gradually to full power.

SDG&E’s Call Center is open, but the number of customers calling for information has caused a considerable back-up.

We urge you to be patient as we work as quickly and safely as possible to determine the extent of the problem and to restore service.

Denmark didn't have a very good summer, it was the second wettest since measurements began in 1874 with 321 millimeters rain (12.6 inches) on average only 2 millimeters short of the 1980 record. The maximum temperature recorded this summer was only 28.2 degrees centigrade (82.8 F) which is the lowest maximum summer temperature since 1962.

Hurricane Katia is about to hit the UK in about 48 hours from now. Promises to be quite breezy in northern and western areas. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14854581

The outskirts of what used to be called Katia first hit Cambridge about an hour ago. We're hundreds of km away from the center of the storm so all we are getting are intermittent though very intense showers of rain and some rather stiff breezes which are making the trees and bamboos thrash around but hasn't (yet!) caused any real damage.
