Question Something broken?

OK, this is getting weird. I can't get the tools at the top of the new thread editor or the edit message window to work. I tried a few minutes ago with IE on Vista, this message is being composed with Firefox on Vista.

What's really strange is the menu options across the top of the forum pane have gone strange on me, too. A couple of weeks ago on my XP system, the "Search" and "Secret Menu" options started switching to a new screen rather than opening a menu. Just yesterday, they did the same thing on my Vista system. I also seem to get script errors on all the forum pages in IE.....

Is anyone else seeing this behavior, or should I do a complete scan of my systems to see if something snuck past my defenses?????

My "quick reply" and "go advanced" buttons seem to work...in Opera browser...
You HAVE re-booted lately, which is my standard trick when stuff gets funny on Windoze....right?

Oh, and you really need to stop using IE, that alone will significantly reduce your vulnerability....

Rebooting doesn't do anything for it. If I'm alone in this, it's very strange....I have 3 systems I'm having this issue on: WinXP 32-bit home, Vista 32-bit Basic, & Vista 64-bit premium. I've tried IE 7, IE8, and Firefox 3.5(?). On every combo, everything is there in the edit windows, the tooltips pop up with hints, but the buttons have no effect.

Also, as reported, I get script errors on every page on the forum. For this reply post, here what I have:

Status bar shows: Done, but with errors on page.

Errors are:
Code:
Line: 9
Char: 1524
Error: Syntax Error

Line: 8
Char: 1
Error: 'YAHOO is undefined'

Line: 12
Char: 720
Error: 'YAHOO is undefined'

Line: 12

Error: 'vBulletin is null or not an object'

@Christenson: I'm running behind a NAT DSL router, I know how to mitigate safety issues, and so far I've not been infected. I'm not 100% secure, but I'm comfortable with my level of risk...

@Andi47: Actually, composing this message, I just realized, I wonder if one of the Microsoft updates this month might have done something. There were a sh*tload of security-related updates pushed out this month, and there must have been something in one of them that has borked things here. Now I just have to figure out which one....@#$%!!

@henryzz: Nope, nothing new, but as I just realized above, there were updates last month and this month.....probably one of them did it.

My XP system was the first to experience this, that may be because I have updates set to "download & notify"; since there were fewer updates for XP, they downloaded and got installed first.....

Well, damn, looks like I've got to either rollback the updates one at a time to see what the issue is, or read all the @#$% notes for each update to see what got broken and what to do about it....I had actually moved the forum to the "Trusted" zone and lowered the security level and that didn't fix things, so it looks to be a big fat pain in my arse.

I may not be able to colorize the next reservation update if I don't figure this one out.

I have no problem with window 7 64-bit(firefox or IE9) which I would think quite likely if both xp and vista have a problem. Do you use Microsoft Security Essentials? There is an client update waiting for me now on windows update but nothing else for the last 2 weeks. Sounds like something that could be the problem.

[Edited to add: I also just installed Firefox 5.0.1, the latest, and it's still broken ]

Two ideas:
1) Someone post the source to this page, for comparison
2) Turn on "Opera Turbo" or whatever the bits are that tell the server that your network is slow. That's one potential difference, and one most of us might not notice.

OK, so now I'm totally screwed. I had to drop the editor option to "Simple Text Box" because the WYSIWYG option won't allow me to enter anything at all....it keeps saying "Your message is too short, please enter at least 1 character.

IE8 reports errors slightly differently. Here is what I get when I try to post a message:

ARRRGGHH...and it won't even let me attach a file here, so I can't include the scripts.

OK, looks like everything's normal now. The only thing I can chalk it up to is some bad JS code that was referenced in post #7.
