Expanding on Uncwilly's response:

GHz-days are not credited in some steady fashion as your assignments progress, as some other DC projects might do.

All that counts for GIMPS/PrimeNet credit is _completing_ an assignment and _reporting the result_ -- you don't get any GHz-days credit until you report a completed result (then you get it all at once for that completed assignment). There are no credits given for partial completions.

Progress reports in the midst of an assignment let PrimeNet know that you're making progress and haven't abandoned any assignment (which is important, so that PrimeNet doesn't reassign your tasks to someone else because it thinks you're not progressing), but they don't get you any GHz-day credit unless they are reporting _completion results_.
