I'm a newbie. Using Athlon 1800. Norton Utilities says my CPU is working 100%.....
P-1 factoring M21457771 with B1=335000, B2=335000 M21457771 Stage 1 is 33.03% complete. Time 3247.690 sec. Is this what I should be seeing ??? |

Yes, what you are seeing looks right.

At the end of the LL-Test (that test will take at least some weeks to complete) you will know if M21457771 is prime or not. If it is prime, you are famous :) Even if it is not prime, your work will appear in the stats and your system will start crunching the next number... That depends on how much memory is available. If there is not enough to run stage 2 in a meaningful way, the client will increase the B1 bound and skip stage 2.

This brings up a second point...I have 512mb memory and I'm using Win 98...I'm not too sure if more than 256mb of memory is being used. At boot up the BIOS says 490 odd memory but this doesn't necessarily mean Win 98 is using it ??

Win98 is able to use 512MB of memory (but not equally efficient compared to 2k or xp).
The memory-settings you make in the prime95-client only affect the factoring (phase 2) and that phase is only using 2% of the total running time of a test. Because of this, please make sure that you do not use too much memory for prime95. Keep enough for the operating system and the other applications. Even using only 8MB for prime95 will be sufficient. You can find even more information about this topic in the readme.txt P.S.: With more then 512MB you run into problems using Win98. Check MS KB 304943 for more information. I have a P4, and when i run the program, the task manager says that im only using 50% of the CPU. I think this has something to do with the Hyper-Threading, but i would like to make sure. If this is the case, how can i make it so it is using 100%?

Easiest way is to disable hyper-threading. But just seeing that 50% of 2 processors(one virtual, one actual) shows that one is working at 100%.

It's possible to disable hyperthreading in your BIOS, but whether it's necessary or advisable to do so might depend on which older operating system you're using, hence the question. |

But if you are running Win2k. Disable HT or else you will get a ~50% hit in Prime95 speed. |
