The design issues are interesting. A single CPU is relatively low power compared to an electric heater, so I guess some kind of multi-CPU system would be desired. And some kind of themostat and throttle would be needed. Then how to set computations and collect results? Perhaps a wireless card in each system, and I could drive by once a week with a wireless laptop? I wonder if we could build something cheap enough to really get our friends and neighbors to use it? suffiient heat would need a lot of cpu power i mean u need a few hundred watts to heat a room proibily around 300 watts or so the p4s dump around 50 to 80 watts i dont remember correctly someione tell me if im wrong so u would need quite a few but u can always use one cpu and stick 3 70 watt lightbulbs in there ;)

I thought about using an eight processor PIII machine and a thermostat, but I didn't find any cheap 8-processor machines on ebay.
