Unusual Cruncher Deaths...

I figured i should start a tread over unusual deaths of various GIMPS crunching machines. I have many stories to share and maybe you do to. I wonder if I am the only one with bad luck

6 computers have been decommissioned after being exposed to extreme heat in building fire. They look really cool, however i don’t think that they fit the ATX form factor now.

This also caused the other 5 machines to stop working until they can be examed for damage. I hope that they didn't return bad results

Well, in my experience machines generally become unstable around 73C. Given that your average building fire is 800+ C, I'd delete the save files :)

If there are save files at all, keep them.

It would be a highly unusual building fire that merely corrupted a save file by altering a few bits on a magnetic platter. Usually they just turn the whole computer into a piece of post-modern sculpture.

i can't get to the computers yet for examination. Insurance has to evaluate loses first.

has anybody else had an unusual death of a cruncher?

But what if the room got warm before the computer was melted?

Then that'd be a major cooling issue.

Actually, my bet is the hard drive was heated past its curie temperature, so I doubt it's recoverable :(

Well... Indirectly this whole thing is causing 20 other computers not to check in their work
