Math and Microsoft Word

Hello all,

I have a quick question regarding Microsoft Word 2007 and its math equation tools. Am I blind, or is there no option to insert partial derivatives and a number of operands and Greek symbols? If not, I would greatly appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks,

Not sure about some of those operands, but this looks Greek to me!

I'm not a mathematician, so I don't have much experience with the insertion of mathematical symbols, but I have an idea regarding Greek symbols.

Open Word. Click on the Insert tab across the top of the screen. (This also works in you're in the Equation Editor.) Then move the cursor all the way to the right, where you can click on the little arrow below "Symbol." Then click on "More Symbols." That will open a box with two tabs, "Symbols" and "Special Characters." Click on the Symbols tab, and the default character set will (usually) be labeled "(normal text)". Scroll down within the characters shown, and past the end of the Latin section you will find the Greek alphabet followed by Coptic and Cyrillic (Russian) characters.

An alternative: Once you're in that box with the "Symbols" and "Special Characters" tabs, you can also scroll down to the "Symbol" character set and proceed from there.

I have the 2010 word beta someone gave me so I'm not much help I know some neat equations are in the drop down in 2010 one but unsure about 2007 though I thought I had both.

after the insert tab loads it I think i see some differential stuff under design integral differentials, $\delta x$ , $\delta y$ , and $\delta \theta$ all seem there in 2010 is this what you asked for in 2007 if so can someone else check ?

It's all there in 2007. Once you select Insert, Equation, in the Design ribbon you have a palette of common symbols in the center. Click the lower down arrow on the right side of this palette to expand it. Now the words "Basic Math" appear at the top of it with another little down arrow. Click that arrow to choose different palettes, including Greek letters, Letter-like symbols, other fonts commonly used in math, etc. Also, if you know latex, many of the symbols can be entered using the latex equivalents. For example, typing \delta then hitting the space bar enters the Greek letter delta.

I got my dosage equation working.
$md= d \times \frac{2^x}{2^x-1}$

by the way if you ever want to use it again in 2010 version you can say add new equation and add it to the list already there.
