U. S. Senator Robert C. Byrd (D - WV) (1917-2010), longest serving Senator in U. S. history (1959-2010), and the last Senator to participate in a vote to admit a new State to the Union (i.e. Alaska and Hawaii).

Bob Sheppard, legendary New York Yankees (and New York Giants football) public address announcer, died July 11, three months shy of 100. If you ever heard his voice, you know that his reading you the phone book would be an epic auditory experience.
Then, two days later, (in?)famous Yankees owner George Steinbrenner passed away, age 80. I'm thinking that the front office of Heaven's (or Hell's, depending on whether or not you're a Yankees fan, LOL) baseball team was needing some shaking up. |
