Google Toolbar Broker

Windows Vista 64 Bit....
Intel Q9550
IE 8.0

Lately most time when I open IE it is slow; windows open slow, refresh slow, etc.

When I check in Task Manager I see a process running called GoogleToolbarUser_32.exe*32 with a description of Google Toolbar Broker using 25% of the CPU.

If I simply terminate it IE is fast again.
It does not seem to want to end on its own.
It's been running 10 minutes now...SO I KILLED IT AGAIN!!!!

And insight into why it is there and how I "fix" it?

More important to realize is 25% = 1/4. Thus one core of your quad-core processor is blocked by this process. Any other process on that core is effectively crippled.

When using Task Manager with a dual/quad or more core CPU it's useful to understand that less than 100% CPU use can still mean something is LOCKED UP.

For example, I had a previous RAID driver issue. On my i965 it took me a while to realize that 12.5% CPU (1/8) actually meant that driver was FROZEN.

But I do miss the icons of last-screens-visited when I open a new tab.

Once I hear news it has been fixed I'll have to reinstall it.

i am using Chrome and don't have any Google Toolbar installed. you don't have to have both. or do misunderstand and actually the google toolbar is putting the Chrome-esque most visited sites previews on your IE new tab page?

My son is also trying to talk me into Google Chrome.

chrome has a panel of your most visited sites, and a short list of the last few tabs you have closed.
