Prices of internet service in an around Lufkin, Texas. Assume US Dollars:

In Lufkin:
Low end cable internet service from TXUComm (128k/64k) ~ $10 /month in Lufkin, TX

Standard DSL service from TXUComm (384k/128k that performs more like 3000k/1000k) ~ $35 /month in Lufkin, TX

One T1 (1544k/1544k) from TXUComm within Lufkin, TX ~ $250 /month and $2000 setup (delivered over copper)

One Dedicated T1 (1544k/1544k) from D.P. Solutions within Lufkin, TX ~ $500 /month and $2000 setup (delivered over copper or fiber)

3 miles Outside Lufkin; “ValorComm Territory”:
Economy Dial-Up from TXUComm (Theoretical: 56k shared; Actual: 14.4k shared) service ~ $15 /month

Dial-Up service from D.P. Solutions that might actually work (Theoretical: 56k shared; Actual: 14.4k with compression) ~ $30 /month

Satellite internet service from StarBand delivered by EcoStar ~ $80 /month for service + $40 /month in “royalties” to ValorComm

(here is what I have) High end ISDN service from TXUComm delivered by ValorComm(128k/128k) for people that cannot receive cable or DSL internet service ~ $60 /month for TXUComm service+ $90 /month in ValorComm delivery charges and "royalties" + $1000 setup

One T1 (1544k/1544k) from TXUComm to a "outskirt" of Lufkin, TX ~ $1,500 /month in "royalties" to ValorComm (telecomm company of the "outskirt") + $400 /month for internet service from TXUComm with 6 real IP's + $40,000 setup(delivered by fiber, not copper) = enough for you to drop your jaws (and some big IT dude around here pays that)

The ability to get a static IP and ping rates below 100ms to the internet backbones in Houston, Texas from, "The Sticks; The Back and Beyond; ValorComm Territory" ~ priceless

I don't like the idea of using currency conversion. The buying power of the people is more important.
Here, in Malaysia, the currency is Ringgit Malaysia, symbol: RM.
RM 1 = USD$ 0.2632

Income for a fresh graduate electrical engineer:
RM 1500 - RM 2000

Electricity:
RM 0.218 per kWh, for first 200kWh
RM 0.258 per kWh, next 800kWh (?)

ADSL internet:
RM 88 per month, 512kbps max downstream

dialup internet:
RM 0.015 + RM 0.015 per minute (telco + ISP)

short range phone call (within city)
RM 0.04 per minute
