Hmm... I know VirtualBox has some settings regarding mouse capture, etc... you can try fiddling with those; otherwise, I'm not sure why it would work fine physically but not remotely. As for BOINC, I believe it's command-line to install, but it does come with a GUI. You'll get a download named something like "boinc_6.10.58_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu.sh".

What I'd recommend is make a folder for BOINC in your home folder; download and right click on that file; somewhere near the bottom of the right-click menu click "Properties" then "Permissions" and set the execute bit (should be a checkbox). Then double click on the file to run it; more folders should appear, and one of them will have files named run_client and run_manager; double clicking on each/either should get BOINC running. (I can provide command line instructions if you want or if these don't work.)

My first attempt to run BOINC was when Berkeley site was down so I didn't manage to run it. Paul Underwood got the same issue with his Debian linux but on Windows it ran. The client shutdown by itself when "add project" window was selected. 30 min call to Paul didn't manage to solve the problem but two days ago it connected and started working. It's funny how Ubuntu works, totally different from Windows OS but I will get there and probably make a clean ubuntu installation on the machine.

Anyway, if the call was recorded it would have been funny to listen, a windoze guy talking to a linux guy...lol

Paul: Open terminal and run command...
Carlos: How do I open the terminal? Where's the terminal?

Something like this....

Carlos

Now mouse capture works well but it is so slow. And I have to click twice for each action what makes to be annoying at some point. Anyway, I managed to turn off screen lock and to always get boinc manager visible so I can easily point to the update button. I don't know why automatic update isn't working....!?!
