What you experience is normal. Under 6 cores inclusively, each new physical core brings in new resources, speeding up the things a lot. With HT enabled (over 6 cores) there should be insignificant speedup for each additional core, as they are only logical, they use the same physical cores as before, so they can't speed up the things too much. The reason of HT is to take advantage of non-optimized programs. The same physical core can be "feed" using two pipes, and if a pipe is clogged from time to time, the core feeds itself from the other. P95 is quite optimized, a lot of efforts were put into avoiding the pipe to clog, the pipe never clogs, or clogs very seldom, so feeding a core with a second pipe it will only take advantage of those very seldom moments when the first pipe is clogged. That is what you experiment with the 7th core. After a threshold (which happens to you with 8+ cores) the memory pipe is the limit. Like if you feed yourself from so many pipes at a time, you don't have time to breath anymore...
and you have to stop a little to breathe... With unlimited memory speed, you may experience something like 520, 510, 500, 490 ms, etc for 7, 8, 9, 10 etc cores. But as each core has its own overload - knocking at the memory doors - they step on each-other toes and you see a decrease of performance. Most probably the best output rate for you would be to have 6 workers each doing its OWN assignment. Your turnover in that case would be 6 exponents in 517 days (in fact, about 550 days or a bit more, the time of a single worker increases a bit when you have many such single workers). But as it is very difficult to wait so long, you can choose a 6-cores worker and you can output one exponent every 101 days, for a total of 6 exponents in 606 days (a "loss" of about 80 days, but having the advantage that you see the results faster). The discrepancy with the 7th core is most likely due to the AffinityScramble2 bug in the build 2 of the Prime95 27.7.
I am not going to work on a 100M exponent on this machine due to the lack of ECC memory. It is doing double-checks for now (with helper threads disabled), and if results are good I will be switching it to five LL tests from the lowest available first time range, plus one memory intensive job (P-1, or ECM). The computer passed stress testing already. Hyper threading is enabled because this is a normal office computer that is used for daily tasks. Hyper threading makes it snappier, especially with input-output jobs. |

I have two i5-3570k that are very similiar(CPU, memory, settings) but get different times working to see if the difference is CPU, possibly motherboard since one is an ASRock Z77 Extreme6 and the other is an ASRock Z77 Extreme4.

My guess is when you actually use the onboard video the system sneaks some memory off the top. I will throw a video board in it and see if it changes. Maybe using the HD4000 video onboard the Ivy chip makes the system slower... The faster i5-3570k chip runs hot(85-92 C) and I have re-applied two different types of thermal paste multiple times. I even swapped out Hyper 212 EVO coolers thinking something was wrong. The slower i5-3570k runs temps between 75-80 C. Both over clocked to 4.4GHz. |

Do either have turbo enabled? I imagine the one using the HD4000 will have less headroom for turbo. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the memory bandwidth on the one using the HD4000 is permanently allocated to the HD4000 or at least the HD4000 will be using some.
