Setting aside the jocularity of the last two posts, go to Advanced>Quit GIMPS in Prime95's menu. (If you're using mprime on Linux, run mprime with the -m option to get to a menu and navigate to that option.) You will be asked whether to finish your in-progress assignment(s) before quitting; if you select yes, Prime95 will keep running until you're done with your work (which could be up to a few weeks depending on the assignment and the speed of your machine), whereas if you select no, Prime95 will quit immediately, but with the side effect that you lose any work you've done on in-progress assignments.

Are you asking about removing your Prime95/mprime account on your PC?
OR your account on this forum?

mdettweiler answered the first.

I assumed the former, since if it was the latter he probably would have just used his username to post here rather than a guest ID.

Question Why leave?

No one has raised the question of why you want to leave GIMPS, so out of curiosity (and in hopes of having you stay in our ranks) I will.

If you're simply unclear as to what it is your computer is doing, we will be happy to help you learn more and understand the purposes of GIMPS, so that you see the worth of the project and are perhaps thus able to better feel a part of it.

If you got an LL assignment that says it will take two months to complete (or if you were motivated by the EFF prize and selected a 100-million-digit assignment that will take YEARS) and are daunted by waiting so long for your first results, you might want to consider a shorter assignment type, such as trial factoring, ECM, or P-1 factoring. There are trial factoring assignments available that can be done in mere MINUTES. You might be happier with this kind of work, which is extremely important to the project, but offers rapidly mounting results.

If your concern is wearing out your computer, you needn't worry about running GIMPS. CPUs are born to run 24/7/365, as long as you run in normal room temperature and keep excessive dust out of your system. Running GIMPS will increase your electric bill a little (amount will be dependent on CPU type and local rates), but GIMPS is a LOT cheaper than most hobbies out there. If you're running your system 24/7/365 as it is, the increase is generally negligible. You can even set GIMPS up so it runs only a few hours a day.

If you're a torture tester/overclocker, and have already passed the stress tests, GIMPS is an excellent way to make sure your computer stays in shape. GIMPS will burn your processor at 100% day and night, and so if it runs error-free for weeks on end, you know that your system is pretty darn stable.

Anyway, we would love to see you stay on and contribute in any way you'd like. Please don't hesitate to ask questions if we can be of any help. Many of us have been in this project as far back as the '90s, and are proud and happy to help newcomers.

Unhappy

I wish to deregister my account, because it is impossible for me to be proud member. I have managed to reset all options to the default value, but I'm unable to invalidate attachments, passwords, email, etc. How do I do that?

Background:

I'm unhappy about the moderation in the soapbox. Being in disagreement about politics in the soapbox with a moderator X, should not result in the dissident receiving threatening PMs by X.
