Xyzzy,

I went to the chat room and registered. I received the email with password within seconds. When I attempt to log in with the userid and password, I get "Access Denied, are your credentials correct".

I traced it down to the length of my userid. I was using Fusion_power. When I shortened it to just Fusion, it works.

The max length is set to 15 characters...

I bet the problem was the "_"...

Logged in chat but can't get in. No way to logout. Attempts at logging in again say already logged in.

I guess I'll be logged in forever ( or at least until it times out ).

It would be nice if you could actually get that running. It takes you guys forever to reply!

Now that we have the Newbie forum, and with all the M40 activity, perhaps the chat room is a useful resource for welcoming and keeping newbies.

Could a sticky pointing to the chat room be posted in the newbie forum?

Is there a way to display the current chat room occupant count on-or-next-to the button,

. . . (or maybe on the login page) so we can see if it's empty or really jumpin' before we go in?
(log the server into the room, then have a script count the lines in the occupant window?
have the server keep a decaying posts/minute -- to indicate a "noise level" rather than head count?)

Is there a way to make the chat window ping when someone enters? or when someone talks?
(A door-bell command would be nice to wake up a silent room with 6 people in it.)

Just some ideas to make the chat room more friendly/useful.

I'm trying to get in the habit of opening the chat window before I start reading new posts, and leaving the left column visible behind my browser so I can see any activity.

So from now on, if my nick is listed as browsing, there's a chance to catch me in the chatroom.
