The above title is my guess. With some deep research within the mersenne forum, I was able to uncover this as the potential 50th mersenne prime. If this is M50, then this would be relatively close to M49 considering the extensive gaps between mersenne primes as P gets larger, in the expression 2^P - 1.
In fact, I was able to prove that for all P prime, 2^P divides (2^(P + 1) + (P + 1)!) iff (if and only if) P is a mersenne prime. This is thus a new primality test, but unfortunately the value (P + 1)! can get very large very quickly, the greater the value of P. My point is, perhaps we could use this primality test to prove that M50 might be a mersenne prime without having to guess, but the only problem is, the values get much too large. |

, people like we have seen here in the last days of 2107 have no idea what all those numbers and names on the status page mean, and they still believe the number can be prime, even if the LL residue is something like 0xB094499608396FFF. It should say clear with big black letters: This number is Composite. Which means it is NOT Prime. Ever! ![]() Last fiddled with by LaurV on 2018-01-03 at 10:13 |
