In 2008, an Israeli professor claimed to have discovered small traces of element 122, Unbibium, in some naturally occurring deposits of Thorium. This fact had been criticized by other scientists all over the world. See here, at this page only.

Perhaps, that his claim could be false as well?

Of course both sides are being unfair. One concept that I grant is much easier to adhere to with religion than without is the idea of pacifism in the face of aggression. Religion has a great deal to offer -- and some who do not hold religious beliefs are able to take advantage of things much the same way that a pathological personality can more easily choose which tenets of society they follow or manipulate.

I feel that the discussion actually draws the schism in the wrong place. Strange it is, that the present antithesis of a Jainist Monk is a Wall Street Capitalist.

I do not intend to dispute your allegation of unfairness - indeed, I welcome it - but, for the benefit of our members from Minnesota, I should point out that sarcasm is a rhetorical technique in which one adopts a caricature of an opposing view and speaks in an assumed voice.

Certainly most Christians do not think that the only thing stopping humans from chainsaw-mayhem-rape-o'-rama is the belief in a divine presence.

I still wonder, though, why such Christians are not offended by this characterization of humans. Sheesh! It's a nasty way to characterize Christians as well as athiests: as abortion-loving serial slashers restrained only by an invisible being.
