This is the only one I have written. More will come soon. song: MM61 sung to: Aura Lee (old love song) notes: The "L-L" stands for Lucas-Lehmer. Standard quantum computers, when realized, will be able to factor massive numbers only using polynomial time with Shor's algorithm. I know of a big number, too big to L-L; quadrillions of digits long, MM61. [chorus] We don't know your factors, you are way to big... I wish I had a quantum - a quantum computer. [/chorus] Tony Forbes first started it, finding your factors. One day I will hit the gold, finding divisors. [chorus] MFAC is cool program, but still takes a while. Finding divisors is hard, but still possible. [chorus] |

Here's one more...
song: Prime sung to: Bingo notes: I tried several songs using Bingo, but only this one seemed to fit... There are numbers that don't factor; primes are what we call them... P R I M E P R I M E P R I M E ...and they don't divide evenly! There are numbers that don't factor; primes are what we call them... [clap] R I M E [clap] R I M E [clap] R I M E ...and they don't divide evenly! ... |

song: The Number is Big
sung to: The Water is Wide note: Some of you may have heard of the folk song, The Water is Wide. Well, this version is about primality testing! The number is big, I cannot factor. And neither have I lots of time. Give me some links to the good programs. And I can prove primality. I thought I had a good program, but first it froze, and then it crashed, and so I found another program. There are Mersenne primes, (there are Mersenne primes) and Fermat primes, (and Fermat primes) and Woodall primes, (and Woodall primes) and Cullen primes. (and Cullen primes) Factorials (factorials), primorials, (primorials), and other types, (and other types) and many more... (and many more...) [slowly] and many more... (and many more...) [below line optional] Mm... |

song: The False M40
sung to: John Brown's Body (Civil War song) notes: When I say M40, I mean the 40th Mersenne prime, not 240 - 1. Some say that one may be addicted to GIMPS if one mourns for the false M40. Well, I thought that this song would fit, and it is sung to the tune of John Brown's Body, named for John Brown (who died for a cause during the Civil War times). It seemed that somebody has found M40, It seemed that somebody has found M40, It seemed that somebody has found M40. Too bad it wasn't prime. We're still looking for the real one, We're still looking for the real one, We're still looking for the real one. It will be found some day. Some software bugs created the false positive, And the Mersenne number was mistakenly marked a prime. We were so excited, then we found out the truth; The real one will be found. "M40" wasn't prime after all, "M40" wasn't prime after all, "M40" wasn't prime after all, The real one will be found. We should not stop running Prime95, We should not stop running Prime95, We should not stop running Prime95, We will find M40. |

Enough song writing for now... might writ more later...
song: Very Large Odd Integer sung to: Little Innocent Lamb (gospel) notes: This should be a fun song. The song, Little Innocent Lamb, is used in my chorale class. In some parts, the basses, tenors, altos, and sopranos sing different lines at a time, but I simplified this version to one line at a time. However, the song still works out great. Quote:

song: Oh, M40
sung to: Oh, Christmas Tree I know this isn't Christmas, but posting this shouldn't hurt either! Oh M40, Oh M40, We greatly envy your size! Oh M40, Oh M40, Your digits seem forever! We spent over two years, Testing "every" prime exponent, By using Prime 95. Oh M40, Oh M40, You're the greatest for now! Oh M40, Oh M40, You are really the true one! Oh M40, Oh M40, You are the greatest known prime! Even if we find bigger ones, We will never forget you. Oh M40, Oh M40, You've made math interesting!
