Not news for us, who grew in the communist block. Interesting that dej* opposed it, and that might have been one of the reasons he was killed. Wiki is is very brief - and wrong - about his death, he was sick but not "such sick", however after a visit to kremlin his condition deteriorated rapidly and he died in less than two months. The "official"/underground version which circulated about hid death during ceausescu* was that he was poisoned/irradiated by russians due to the fact that he didn't want to give them the Snake island (former romanian territory, later russian, at that time in dispute, of course the dispute was won by who had more and bigger tanks). Also ceausescu* opposed it (we learned Mendelian stuff in school, about how to torture little/innocent drosophilas, and lysenkoism was a subject of anecdotes and jokes), but he was much late anyhow, when the things (against lysenkoism) were already settling down, and somehow everybody was opposed to it.
