this was a rather strange sequence. i picked it because it had 2^2 driver and it still has it now but it only went up. did i get something mixed up?

I guess you didn't notice that it also has a factor of 7. So it's not the 2^2 downguide, it's the 2^2*7 perfect number driver. The extra (though quite unstable) factors of 3, 5, and 7 also make it grow much quicker than it otherwise would.
