I'm not sure that's really WTF material. I can sympathize with the groundhog's point of view on being hauled around to strange places, with strange people. I think it's perfectly understandable that he might want to take a little nip.

The mayor is lucky that this wasn't Beaver Day. That's a much bigger (and possibly grumpier) rodent, with teeth to match.

Australian college baseball player shot and killed by 'bored' Oklahoma teens

Quote:
An Australian college baseball player out for a jog in an Oklahoma neighborhood was shot and killed by three "bored" teenagers who decided to kill someone for fun, police said.
Christopher Lane, who was visiting the town of Duncan, where his girlfriend and her family live, had passed a home where the boys were staying and that apparently led to him being killed, police chief Danny Ford said on Monday. A 17-year-old in the group has given a detailed confession to police, but investigators haven't found the weapon used in last week's shooting, Ford said. That teen and the others – aged 15 and 16 – remain in custody; Ford said the district attorney is expected to file first-degree murder charges on Tuesday. It wasn't known if the three would be charged as adults or juveniles. They are to appear in court Tuesday afternoon.
"They saw Christopher go by, and one of them said: 'There's our target,'" Ford said. "The boy who has talked to us said, 'We were bored and didn't have anything to do, so we decided to kill somebody.'"
Of course, we all know that "Guns don't kill people."[/SNARK] However, people with easy access to guns do kill people.

Argh! I did not look at the date. The story came up on the front page of my Guardian tab. Sorry for the dated material, but it is still full-blown WTF material. However, borked link corrected. Thanks, axn.

Yep. In fact, it wasn't a real link at all. I missed a Copy operation in there, so I repeated the headline in the link field.

Default Conrad Hughes Hilton III

The above-named Hilton brat went berserk on a 10 hour flight from London to LA. Ah, the joys of obscene wealth!

NOTE: This was in July.

How Big Is The Biggest Star We Have Ever Found?

that means it takes light roughly 2*1.118 * Pi hours to go once around it's equator if thought of as a perfect sphere. or without frame dragging it can only rotate once in that number of hours.

Default Utah hears of danger of dope-crazed rabbits if marijuana legalised

Quote:
Legalising medical marijuana in Utah could lead to absent-minded rabbits and other animals who don’t feel their natural instincts, a special agent for the DEA has warned the state.
Gotta watch out for them crazed bunnies!

Quote:
Jeremy Roberts, president of the company Medical Cannabis Payment Solutions testified to that point, beginning: “I was kind of shocked to find out the killer rabbit of Caerbannog from Monty Python and the Holy Grail is actually in the Utah mountains.”

The rotational speed needed to tear the star apart (i.e. at which centripetal acceleration exceeds the surface gravity) is bound to be far, far lower than any relativistically nontrivial rotational speed. I'll let you compute the former quantity as a fun exercise.
