The GIMPS home page says:

Shouldn't it be version 25.9?

That is an old "dated" blog entry. It was current when it was written and entered. It might be nice to automaticaly add the date to each entry as it is posted.

You are right that perhaps an announcement of the current version could be added but there isn't much change really and I don't think you need to update your install unless you are having problems.

Really? AFAIK, 25.9 had some sizeable speed boosts for many CPU types.
