Just for kicks i am thinking about buying VIA's C3 processor. I have a processor from AMD, Intel, Cyrix, and now i want one from VIA.
Has anyone benchmarked a VIA C3 Before? Please post results... http://www17.tomshardware.com/cpu/20020605/index.html |

The benchmarks I've seen - including for RC5, OGR, and one other distributed project (I forget which offhand) indicate that the C3 is a little faster than half of a same-clock P-III on non-FP, and a LOT slower on FP stuff.
They *DO* run cool, but there's a major performance hit for that. Plus side - they ARE Socket-370 compatable, so they'll run in a lot of existing common motherboards. On the other hand, a Crusoe runs JUST as cool at the same Mhz, but offers about 90% of P-III performance per Mhz - even on FP. Unfortunately, those are NOT available in a commonly-used desktop socket form factor. 8-( |

Van's Hardware reviewed the Transmeta TM5800 and compared it to a Celeron 1.7GHz and a VIA C3-Nehemiah:
Vanshardware Transmeta Crusoe Review I read somewhere else that it is possible to use the internal instruction set on Nehemiah. That would be an interesting option - for other CPUs too. |
