I think... I think they run at UTC+1

I will find out, then hopefully they will update before the vault, and it will have the correct stats

I only heard of DC-Vault yesterday and I'm not inclined to read the 5000 posts in this thread since I posted! I'll just go along with the majority.

I agree with what Max said. I simply don't know what kind of people will be attracted through DC-Vault since I hadn't heard of it before.

The only plans I recall are to have the NPLB web site there, but if we could set it up so that the URL we put in the LLRnet config files is noprimeleftbehind.net, I think that'd be great.

I am very familiar with HTML and know enough programming to be able to help out with basically anything. I could probably help out with the site in some way if needed.

It is possible to redirect a forum link to another web page, which could be a different forum, but having it appear as if the two forums were the same is something we would not even attempt.

Our suggestion is to take IB's offer for a dedicated forum.

The pros are numerous. He has control over his hardware so you will definitely get more space and probably unlimited private messages.

(If we remember correctly, there is a hardwired limit of ~65,536 messages.)

Your project has reached critical mass so the need to bootstrap off the popularity and reputation of the other projects here is most likely not necessary any more.

We will, of course, miss you all if you leave.

Dedicated website and forum sounds cool.
Could also include password-protected file vault etc.
Can't wait to lose the 'Flatlander' moniker!
(I'm happy to make a modest contribution towards running costs.)

Okay, I think that's what we'll do. I spent some time mulling over this last night and am fully agreed that a dedicated forum is the way to go.

One quick question, though: would it be possible to do a CSV export of some sort from the mersenneforum.org NPLB subforum that we could import into the new one? I'd hate to lose all those posts.

Regarding a redirect: I would be very grateful if you guys could continue to provide us with our current spot on the home page and have it redirect to our new forum. I think Conjectures 'R Us, our sister project, should stay here at mersenneforum--it's still somewhat smaller, and with its higher-math focus, it seems right to have it here, at a place where a lot of higher-math folks hang out. We could then have a similar redirect on the new NPLB forum that sends users back to the CRUS forum at mersenneforum.org.

And yes, we'll definitely miss you too! Though, I must say, I definitely will continue to follow this forum as I do now--there are a number of other projects and subforums here that I will want to keep up on.

David, could you possibly get our new domain set up so as follows?:

stats.noprimeleftbehind.net points to our stats site (stats.ironbits.net)
llrnet.noprimeleftbehind.net points to nplb.ironbits.net
www.noprimeleftbehind.net will host our new home page (in the meantime redirect to www./forum as shown below:)
www.noprimeleftbehind.net/forum would have vBulletin installed

Last night I came up with some cool ideas for how to set up the forum. I think I'd like to see it follow the mersenneforum.org "design philosophy"--namely, "simple and elegant" so to speak. No flashy signatures, none of that extra "vBexperience" stuff that gets in the way, etc. Also, I'm still trying to decide what color scheme to use. As much as I like the mersenneforum.org theme, I don't want to use the exact same one (for contrast); I was considering two possibilities. One is very similar to this forum, except with green hues instead of the blue. The other is based on the Free-DC forum's default (tan and blue), which I've also found to be very tasteful and easy on the eyes. Any opinions on this?

Max

vbulletin styles are fairly simple to create and you can have as many as you wish allowing users to choose their own too (if you want to) whilst retaining a default..

You can always look for a prewritten skin as well. Google vbulletin skins...

I used a free one for another forum I have which was simple to edit http://www.houseofrahl.com/ - it's also over at IB's place.

I've used vbulletin quite a lot so have offered to get it up and running for you with some of the same anti-spam tweaks as at Free-DC. I already configured mysql on the server you'll be using so it should be good to go. Apache should be fine as configured. The box actually used to be the freedc stats and forum box on it's own..

I don't believe there is any current way to export a single forum in vbulletin. Only way I can think of would be to get a full export of mersenne installed, then delete all the other forums (which deletes the posts and threads too) but then you'd need to do a manual purge of the users and reset the counters. Would be a pretty major PIA IMO, but is doable..
