Default "News" from Italy

"La Repubblica", an Italian newspaper, finally got it.

Someone probably looked at Yahoo! RSS feeds and found the information related to NPR.
Here is the link.

For Italian readers only:
Note that the article was a (bad) translation, and there are many glitches:

1 - GIMPS distributed project is older than SETI@Home distributed project.
2 - It is said that EFF offered 2 prizes of 150,000 and 250,000 US dollars.
3 - It still refers to 50,000 connected PCs in the project (theuy are actually 92,969).
4 - GIMPS public search started around September 1996, not at the beginning of 2000.
5 - They stepped on the same citation of Prof. Caldwell about 13 million digits numbers.

For all readers:
many got interested after having read the article: I noticed at least 10 Italian names among the new entries I hope that many of them will join Team_Italia (at least two of them already did).

Nice interview, George and Chris. I think Chris's analogy to the Hope Diamond is quite good. The spinoff research/projects that have come about via the fora are worth a mention as well. I'm sure that NFSNET has benefitted from additional members. PSP, 17 or bust, 5 or bust, among others as well.

Isn't the Hope Diamond cursed?

One that has certainly come about as a result of forum discussion is the aliquot sequence miniproject that Frank Schickel has started for sequences from 100000-200000. As one of the people who helped start the discussion that led to the forum, I announce:

Additional members welcome!
