So do something about it instead of whining. There are plenty of sources
of information about polynomial algebra.

Default Debugging the gnfs-lasieve4I16e siever

I have a test case for those whose siever hangs.
Save the attached t6C.poly.txt file (it is for N200):
Run:
Code:
# gnfs-lasieve4I16e -a t6C.poly.txt -f 200001230 -v -c 100
FBsize 11071286+0 (deg 6), 14628979+0 (deg 1)
total yield: 5, q=200001233 (8.77000 sec/rel)
(the process can hang after this output, indefinitely, i.e. wait for 10 minutes)
If this is the case, download the SVN version, build (per INSTALL file) and retry. I do believe that this had been patched long ago - it is just the old binaries lingering in people's collections. Let's test if this is true.

The version I'd been having trouble with had timestamp 2009-04-15. I've built from SVN and it worksforme on your example now.

Ah, good. The old one had that problem.

(I thought that we had new variations on the L1_BITS 15 or 16, but hopefully this is not the case.)

The deployed NFS@Home sieve binaries work fine as well.
