Found an interesting guy, Jon Brooks, on the Ghost Box label --
P.S. He is a clever "player by the rules", but not an imitator, and never slips into reproduction or a parody. This is a 2018 album but sounds as if it was lifted from 70-80s. Reminiscent of what folks did for the "Stranger Things" |

His guitar is really good, too.

This is a trial run of something I have dithered about for a long time. I have probably mentioned that Dan and I have gotten together with friends, mostly on Saturday afternoons, for more than 35 years, to play music. Our recording devices started with boom boxes, but early on, we progressed to a Tascam 4 track cassette recorder. After a few years we moved up to a 16 track Roland digital HDD recorder. These two pieces come from that era.
The first two posts are from the period when I was at my peak playing the accordion. Atontonilco appears repeatedly in my Tex/Mex music collection. It draws accordion players like a musical magnet. A Mexican American friend told me that the name means "a place with hot springs." He also said that it was a tune you were likely to hear in the background in Mexican movies. There is at least one recording on YouTube with lyrics, but this is less common. The Gypsy's Wife is one of my many favorite Leonard Cohen songs. When my mother heard this recording she questioned the emphasis on the words 'gypsy' and 'my'. She thought 'gypsy' should have been prominent. I tried to explain that the whole thrust of the song is about possession and jealousy. Hence, the long emphasis is on 'MY'. I have tested this link. It should allow downloading of the mp3s. There should be a Download All link at the upper right. https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...p3?usp=sharing Last fiddled with by kladner on 2020-05-29 at 00:03 |

Here are the next couple of songs, introducing our friend and long-time collaborator, Kevin Cassidy. He does lead vocals on many of our recordings and plays guitar, bass guitar, ukulele, and keyboards. On "Louise" by Tex Perkins, Kevin sings and plays ukulele, Dan plays bass and piano on electronic keyboards, and I play sax on the Akai EWI 5000 wind synthesizer. On The Passenger by Iggy Pop, the credits get more complicated. The line up still includes Kevin, Dan, and me. I am playing a sax and a harmonica sound on another wind instrument, from Yamaha. Johnny Vignola and Kevin play guitar and bass, with Dan on keyboards. |

just added two more songs to the collection. Both of these are 100% me: music, words, recording, mixing, playing, and singing.
