I finished watching The Peculiar Case of Benjamin Button a few hours ago, and it was one of the most awesome movies I've ever seen. I thought I was going to see a fantasy-type movie, but other than the fact that he's born super old and his body gets younger over time, there was almost no dispension of belief(other than what's normal) to enjoy this movie. It is a romance story in almost all(maybe all) definitions of the word romance.
Update (Alex): Spoilers below. Basically, the movie starts out with a father who's son dies in the war(WWI I think). He is totally distraught over this, so in order to deal with his grief, he builds a clock, which is placed in a train station. What people don't find out until the clock is in place is that it runs backwards. Instead of removing it, people decide to accept it as a sentimental gift and leave it up, where it stays for a very long time, decades in fact. Around the time the clock is installed, a strange child is born. The father freaks out and places him on the doorstep of an old folk's home run by a black family. The family takes him in, using the fake story that his mother, a black woman(his real mother is white and died in childbirth) was very unhealthy, died in childbirth, and because of her bad health, he was born with a degenerative disease that, in addition to making him old, turned him into a white dude. He looks like he's in his 80s, even though he's a newborn. Because he has all the indicators of extreme old age, people assume that he's going to die. Long story short, he doesn't die. Instead, he proceeds, over the next 80 or so years, to get progressively younger, in both appearance, and in his abilities(sight, hearing, smell, ability to walk long distances, etc.) and have many adventures. I won't ruin it for you, but this movie makes Forrest Gump look like crap by comparison. It is the most truly awesome movie I've seen in a very long time. I recommend it to anyone who is capable of sitting through the average 2 hour movie without getting antsy. It's actually about 3 hours long, but it's THAT GOOD. You need to see this movie. Now we really need this movie!
Did it ever occur to you that some people DON'T WANT to know any spoilers about the movie they are thinking about seeing?! Did you ever try this tag? |

I haven't seen it (yet) Jason. I will. My wife and daughter were pleased with it, so I'm sure you're right. I note, though, that it seems the film doesn't always bring out the best in people. :-(
