It's nice that each forum is flagged with an unread-post icon. When I click that it takes me to the first unread post, and that works fine.

When I go back to the list of forums, it does not clear the unread-post icons to reflect that I have read those posts. Even F5 to refresh the page does not clear the icons.

Just to clarify what wpolly and I miss about the old forum, I took a snapshot from another forum that uses phpBB. The snapshot hopefully will be successfully "attached" to this message.

wpolly and I miss the icons to the left and the "goto page: 1, 2, ..." for mutliple page posts.

To clarify about attaching files for anyone who is interested:

You cannot add an attachment when you edit a post, though if you did previously attach a file, you can change or delete that attachment when editing.

Previewing your message seems completely incompatible with attachments. When you preview, it doesn't show your attachment and "forgets" that you were even going to attach anything, so you have to attach the file again before you actually submit your post.

Attachments also don't show in the "Topic review" you see below when you are replying in a thread.

Here is a picture of the new setup... The icon in the yellow circle means there is a new post... The links in the red circle are individual page links... The dot in the icon in the blue circle indicates that you have participated in that thread... The paperclip next to "New Software" means there is an attachment in the thread...

I'm not sure what is missing that you all want... Please be specific...

I see your point about the functionality of the "icons on the left" being present in this new forum software.

When you do a search (which is what clicking the "New posts" link does), the interface does not give you the page listing (1, 2, 3, ..., Last).

However, I took a closer look at the icons and realized that the "this thread has new posts" icon links directly to the first new post in the thread. This is actually better than a page listing for me because I only wanted the page listing so I could find the first new post. So, I "retract" my complaints about the new forum software.

Under the poster's name there is a field labeled "Location:" So far, it is blank for everyone and I didn't find the input field in the profile that allows me to change it.

Also, is there a way to remove the edit icon for posts that you do not permission to edit? It's not overly important, but it would be a bit less confusing.

My PM's are gone too. But I didn't "save" them in the Saved folder. I just left them sitting in my Inbox. AOL notwithstanding, I still wanted to keep them.

I turned off the email address listing to prevent a bot from harvesting them...

If you need to add an avatar just upload it... I've switched the required post count limit to 0... (I also accidently set the avatar size to 75x75 pixels and since people have already uploaded ones that size I guess we'll leave it at that!)

Another thing, if I see a forum that has new post, indicated by the http://www.mersenneforum.org/images/on.gif icon, and I go read all the posts, when I go back to the home page, the icon is still yellow, and it stays yellow unless I click the "mark all post read" link inside the forum. Then the icon turns http://www.mersenneforum.org/images/off.gif. In the old forum, the icon would automatically turn from orange to gray if you read all the new posts in the forum.
