Yes, but that's "security through obscurity", and your probability estimates may be wrong.

Some people's actions can be described as mindless vandalism. It makes no sense to ask yourself what they have to gain when you are judging whether you need protection. Generally speaking most systems are inadequately protected by default anyway and removing parts of the protection which is there is really asking for trouble. Let's not invite a disaster. Certainly it is possible to make systems overly awkward to use by imposing unnecessary security controls, but asking a moderator for a password before deleting data does not seem over the top to me.

I will not insist any more. I will neither go on a post deleting strike, which I intended to do when I saw the so called feature the first time. I will, though, probably do the cleanup less often. I continue to think the asking is silly, just as screensavers don't save my screen, but drive me mad, and will still be very glad if it be removed.
