Ah, now it's all set. Thanks, Mike!

(okay, end of off-topic sidetrack! )

* acquire another computer
A far better approach, in my opinion, is:

* find area of open ground well away from interfering busy-bodies
* open case of computer;
* fill with thermite;
* insert fuse (a strip of magnesium ribbon works well);
* light fuse and retire immediately;
* acquire another computer.

Better in that if anyone does recover the computer it will be much harder to extract embarassing information from it.

This two step approach has also gained in popularity:

* acquire another computer

As someone who knows about disposal of e-waste, I can not endorse any of those concepts.

I think that thermite is better employed by E.L.F. on bulldozers, etc.

Well I ran a Blend Torture Test. Here's what appeared on the screen:

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Beginning a continuous self-test to check your computer.
Please read stress.txt. Choose Test/Stop to end this test.
Test 1, 4000 Lucas-Lehmer iterations of M19922945 using 1024K FFT length.
FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.
Torture Test ran 1 minutes - 1 errors, 0 warnings.
Execution halted.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm currently running the Small FFTs Torture Test. It passed the 8K, 10K, 12K and 14K FFT Self-tests and is currently on the 16K FFT Self-test.

Update to my previous post:

-----------------------------------------------------------

Test 1, 340000 Lucas-Lehmer iterations of M339487 using 16K FFT length.
FATAL ERROR: Final result was BC1348AC, expected: A7311A6D.
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.
Torture Test ran 1 hours, 20 minutes - 1 errors, 0 warnings.
Execution halted.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Oddly enough, the In-place large FFTs Torture Test is exactly the same as the Blend Torture Test, with 4000 iterations of the same exponent. It led to the same result.

How do I run memtest by the way?

First, you buy a goodly quantity of thermite ...
