Hi,
I'm using version 25.3 with Windows Vista. I know it's an experimental version but from what I understand, I can't revert the tests that are in-progress to version 24. In any case, my computer is running LL tests concurrently on 2 numbers. Whenever I reboot my computer or close Prime95, the test on Worker Thread 1 resets to an earlier state, so progress never gets made. However, worker thread 2 continues its test as expected. When I look at the directory in which Prime95 is running, none of the save files appear to have been modified since April 1 (presumably back when I reinstalled Windows Vista). Any idea what's going on? How does test 2 continue if its save file isn't getting updated? Is it still valid? Drew |

Check if you can write to the directory : what are your permissions on the directory and files. The fact that one thread does write save files could mean that its save files are stored somewhere else or ...
Anyway it would be better to upgrade to version 25.6d found on ftp://mersenne.org/gimps/p95v256.zip If you still have problems you could post your configuration files : local.txt and prime.txt. You should have two of each : loca0000.txt and loca0001.txt and prim0000.txt and prim0001.txt. Jacob |

I had noticed that the directory was read only (but not the files) before posting this problem, but even after I made it writeable, the problem persisted. Note that even the files from the 'good' test have a last modified date of April 1. I don't know why that one seems to be working. |

I will try not to write something stupid again (like with the numbered files in my previous post...)
Since one thread does find its save files I suspect they are somewhere else. Try a search of your whole disk for the Prime95 files... Not straightforward with vista, you have to go to advanced search and force it to look in non indexed places... At least one save file must be updated. You could look in the configuration files to look if there is a mention of an alternate directory, that was something possible with v24. Jacob |

in windows explorer go to C:\Users\******\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Prime95\
replace the ****s with your username vista puting things there has caused me problems before i solved the problem by moving everything out of program files my problem was with 24.14 but the same problem will still apply if it is in program files |

The test that's working has 2 save files called p6G14717 and q6G14717. The test that is not working has a save file called r6H93701. I don't know why it's called 'r' or why there's only one rather than two like the other one has. I suspect this is causing my problem. Upgrading to the latest version did not help. You should delete the rxxx file it is probably read only or something. See Not Saving
Better still : stop Prime95, move all files from the two involved directories, taking the most recent files from the the directory Henyzz pointed to, to a new directory in your Documents directory, rename the rxxxx file to pxxxx, and restart Prime95 from the new directory. It would be good that Vista users should be informed of this by a special readme : on Vista one must install Prime95 directly under Documents or on a multi-user system under a new directory in the root of the disk. (Or upgrade to Windows XP or Linux ;-) Jacob Last fiddled with by S485122 on 2008-06-02 at 05:08 Reason: Corrected thread ID |

I have a hypothesis as to what's happening after reading that thread.
Somehow an 'r' file got created before the 'p' and 'q' files were written to the "VirtualStore" directory. And because the files weren't there to delete, an error was returned and Prime95 didn't continue with the renaming process (moving 'r' to 'p' or 'q'). Does that make sense? I'll reconstruct the 'p' and 'q' files from the 'r' file that's there, and move the whole thing into a directory other than "Program Files" so this doesn't happen again. Thanks for your help. Drew |
