Prime 95 shuts down itself after exactly 9:22 hour

I am stress testing my new Q6600 OC to 3.0GHz on my new EVGA 780i MB with OZC HPC Reaper Ram (2x2GB at 5-5-5-15) (rated to go to 4-4-4-15) with 2 EGVA 8800GTX's in SLI. I have had this Prime 95 error where the program has stopped twice now exactly after 9 hours and 22 minutes both times and both in the Blending Stress Test on Prime 95 and asks if I would like to send a report to Microsoft. Anyone have any ideas of why this is occuring. Does Prime 95 have a ending point where it stops. Any thoughts or ideas as to why this is occuring. My system does not shut down, but like I said..Prime 95 version 25.5.1 shuts down. Please help.

Why don't get on down to the standard v24.14 P95. 'cause, ya know, that thar v25.something is just a development version, ya know. And also that thar v25.5.1 ain't even the latest development version, gosh darn it.

I needed a version of Prime 95 that would test all 4 cores and thought that v25.5.1 was the first Prime 95 capable of testing all 4 cores on a quad core cpu at the same time. 1. Does the version standard 24.14 test all 4 cores at once like v25.5.1? 2. Do you really think this could be the cause of my shut downs. This is the first EVGA 780i MB I've used. This version (v25) of Prime was stable on my prior builds using Asus Striker 680i.

Do you get exactly the same result (using 25.5.1) also when you are not overclocking? And is the rounding error exactly the same (to the last decimal)? In that case it could be a software error which we should report to George Woltman.

Or does it just crash, without saying there was a rounding error?

try 25.6 http://www.mersenneforum.org/showthread.php?t=9779 and see if it does the same
if that fails run 4 instances of 24.14 at once so u know hether it is ur cpu or the program though i havent heard of 25.x having a bug but i have heard of it being used for stress testing

Thank you all very much for your posts and suggestions. I cannot remember the exact wording, but I am running it one more time with increased voltage to the Ram and if this fails, I will post the exact wording. I tried to loosen my ram timings, but got the same error where the Prime 95 program shuts down and there is a Microsoft error message asking me if I would like to send this info to Microsoft. My computer stay running. I have not had any issues running this version on Asus 680i Striker Motherboards in the past. This is the first EVGA and first 780i board I have tried the Prime 95 on and so there are a few variables to consider ie new chipset and new brand of MB. If this does not work, I will go ahead and give that v26 a try. Thank you for posting it here for me.

Ok, Prime 95 is still shutting down around the 9 hr 22 min mark give or take 30 minutes. Below is the exact message I am getting when this occurs.

Prime95 Applications has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Are you still overclocking? If so, eliminate the OC and retest.

If it is a v25 prime95 bug, I'd like to nail it. My bet would be a badly handled out-of-memory condition or an FFT bug. So, try this:

Choose custom torture test. Change "Time to run each FFT size" to one.

Run task manager. Is prime95 staying roughly within the memory constraints you set in the custom torture test. If not, let us know.

If it crashes let us know what FFT size it crashes on. Is it repeatable?

Hi!

I'm having the same application crash following a CPU upgrade.

I'm using V25.6, which was running without a problem on my overclocked E2180 (at 3GHz). I've switched to a Q6600 (not yet overclocked) and am seeing this crash about once per day. I'm now running the torture test following your instructions and I'll post the results.

Additional information: Previous CPU had rounding errors of about 0.01, and the primes that were in progress during the upgrade have retained this rounding error. However, the new primes started out with a rounding error of around 0.2 - 0.2500000. I don't know enough about how Prime95 reports these errors to know what is causing this. Any suggestions?

Will come back with the torture test results shortly.

Ok, so I'm about 18 hours stable on the torture test and I'm repeating exponents. I'll download the latest stable release and run it for a day or so on all cores and see what happens.

At least that may indicate if one of the cores is causing a problem.
