jwb, Polyamory was the word I meant. I just tossed it in as a sidenote for the general conversation.

Bob, Spoken like a man who has been through a divorce. I'd sooner be tarred and feathered than to get divorced again.

It might be interesting to note that Polyandry was dominant in India at one point in history just as Polygyny is dominant in muslim nations today.

Sometimes I really think that people who do such things after a separation or divorce, or whatever it may be that caused the split, should be drug out into the street and shot when they had no good reason to do it.

Ok, I wasn't aware that high functioning autistic people were prone to doing such things.

They're not. Being Asperger's and being an asshole are orthogonal.

I'd be absolutely amazed if there aren't a good number of subscribers here who don't have Asperger's syndrome to some extent.

You might find http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/9.12/aqtest.html interesting.

FWIW, a friend of mine with a medical diagnosis of Asperger's scored lower than I did on that test.

Aspergers is all that was officially recognized by the courts. I had professional advice that something else
might be going on as well, but the courts did not allow my petition (at the time of the divorce) to have
her take a forensic psych exam. It was only years later that she admitted to Aspergers. I would say
more, but I don't want to provide an excuse for a lawsuit.

One piece of advice that I did receive:

Aspergers patients are almost all very open and honest. She was
anything but. She was sneaky and had been caught in so many lies by the
court that it was hard to keep track of them all. In one court judgment
the judge actually wrote "Mother's story lacks credibility". My lawyer
told me that this is an extraordinary statement for a judge to make in an
official document. They almost never comment on the veracity of participants.

Dr. Silverman's story is enormously sad. Asperger's syndrome can clearly be a factor in untold personal tragedy. The suffering it can cause to everyone involved is clear.

Could I just add, though, that of course in other circumstances people with Asperger's can and do form successful lifetime relationships. The condition has widely varying consequences in different people. My experience, being in a successful relationship since 1986 (a same-sex partnership, hey, we're back on topic!), is an example of how it can work if one of the partners has Asperger's.

I'm a statistic...informal diagnosis of aspergers'....I take it like any other mild mental issue, it can be dealt with if responsibility is taken and room is given when needed. It took me two tries to get a good partner....

I wasn't being intentionally mean. I don't know anything about autism really, which is what I was meaning. How was I supposed to know you would take it that way? Did you mean that she was being that instead of me and I'm just misunderstanding?
