Do you guys think that after the rally PrimeSearch will be in top 3 in terms of primes found?

No. Do you really think we can get 40 primes in 24 hours? I mean, I'd love to, but I doubt we will. |

We only need 21 primes not 40! Don't forget that each prime we find TPS and PrimeGrid lose one each.

So, assuming they don't find any in the time, to tie Les GeneFermiers for spot 5 we need 15 primes, to beat PrimeGrid for slot 4 we need 17 primes, and to beat TPS for slot 3 we need 19. I recall on a previous rally we got 8 primes, but I don't know how much power we'll have today vs. that day. Due to a strange affinity problem between LLR and Prime95, last night (must've started that evening or afternoon, actually) System Idle Process stole half of a core, 8 CPU hours, from LLR.

![]() The two projects share the n=333333 TPS Riesel primes so they only lose 1/2 prime each time we find a prime. Hence we must find 2/3rds of the difference between us to move ahead of them. The current situation at ~6:15 PM GMT on March 8th is: TPS 170 primes PrimeGrid 167 primes Les GeneFermers 150 primes PrimeSearch 138 primes To pass TPS, we need (170-138)*2/3=21-1/3rd rounded up to 22 primes. To pass PrimeGrid, we need (167-138)*2/3=19-1/3rd rounded up to 20 primes. Of course Les GeneFermers is easy, we simply need the difference+1 to overtake them, i.e. 150-138+1=13 primes. But all of their primes are small; from 100.4K-106K digits. They will soon be all gone too after the TPS primes drop off. The calculations are easy because none of those projects is adding primes above our current test limit unless some fluky thing comes up. I realize this is close to what you originally stated but the number everyone used as a base was way off. Someone said we needed 40 primes. Even when that statement was made, we were only 34-35 primes behind TPS. Gary Last fiddled with by gd_barnes on 2008-03-08 at 18:18 |

30 minutes before the rally starts...I've got both of my cores switched over to IronBits' port 5000 LLRnet server now.

Well, I've just brought two Pentium 3's to the fun: one 550Mhz and the other 1Ghz. Meanwhile my Core 2 Duo has been crunching just fine on both cores.

Sheep, if you see this, can you let us know exactly what you just brought to the rally? I'll get back with you in 5-10 mins. Edit: Sheep, you can ignore this request. Gary Last fiddled with by gd_barnes on 2008-03-08 at 23:26 Reason: Correct math and last line |
