Thanks, the commands worked just fine. I hate re-booting because ya never know when Uncle Willie's (from Redmond, WA) bluescreen might appear.

Hmm...I noticed the same thing. The G3000 PRPnet server we're testing over at CRUS is down too (and since I have a client on that right now I noticed it right away).

As for G4000 getting low on work: ah, thanks for reminding me. I think I was planning to load it up with more yesterday, or something like that...anyway, I'll get a 10K file loaded when it comes back online.

Aha! I've discovered what's wrong with Gary's servers: his IP address changed again and threw off the No-IP thing. Gary, did you get the No-IP client installed on your computer yet? I presume the answer is no, since obviously we're having problems with this.

In the meantime, everybody can point their clients to 76.92.239.55 if they have cached results they'd like to clean out or something like that.

If you have access to his no-ip account, you can manually update it.
Sounds like the ISP is trying to find out why he's using more than 'normal' data flow.
He should really look into getting a fixed IP for running a server anyways.

First of all, no, I don't have access to Gary's No-IP account, otherwise this would have been taken care of as soon as I'd noticed it.

As for a static IP: yes, one would definitely be helpful, but aren't those really expensive?

That's a relative term, but not really in most cases.
Worth checking out, don't cost anything to ask...

Indeed...Gary, do you have any idea how much your ISP's "business" service costs in comparison to your current service? (Often the business-grade service includes a static IP, though not always--sometimes that's more even on top of the business service.)

Hey, you know, I just had an idea. Gary, how about, instead of putting the No-IP client on your main desktop, we put it on crunchford? Since it's the most stable of your machines, and is rarely off under normal circumstances, I'm thinking that it would be an ideal machine to run the client from. I just checked No-IP's website, and they do indeed have a Linux client available; if you'd like, I could install it from over here for you. (Of course, you'd have to tell me your password, but I'll bet it's the same as the password we're using for the VNC servers on all your quads. )

Ah yes, I'd forgotten how you mentioned having re-installed it. However, that begs the question of why it didn't update automatically, then.

Gary, could you try checking in the No-IP client's settings to see how often it's set to update? Maybe set it to 15 minutes or something like that if it isn't already? And, while you're at it, you can hit the button to force an update (I'm sure there's a button to do that).
