IronBits,
What does the message "Server Offline!" offline mean on your server web page here? Obviously the server is still working fine because I've seen the message there for nearly 2 days now. Is it properly reporting primes and creating results files? Thanks, Gary |

However, it probably could be positioned a little better on the page...IronBits, maybe you could do something about that? Thanks.

There is nothing to fix. Give it some work and away it goes ;)
Started processing port 7000 No results.txt for nplbserver7000 - aborting! Finished processing nplb port 7000 It's looking for results.txt and didn't find any because Anonymous won't give it any work until next week. It's all his fault! ![]() Next thing you know, it's gonna start showing up on the main http://nplb.ironbits.net web site with knpairs.txt is empty

How about taking a look in the page that is linked to in the first post of this thread instead of implying that we are somehow to blame. Here is the link to that page: http://nplb.ironbits.net/ Here is a cut-and-paste of the bottom of that page: Quote:
David, whenever I say there is some sort of problem in this thread, it's almost always going to be something wrong on that page or there is something on that page that I don't understand. Personally, I was not aware of the new port 7000. I just now got a PM from Anon about it. You see the "Server Offline!" message? To me, it implies that either port 400 or port 5000 are offline, which is obviously not the case. That's what Anon meant when he said it looked misplaced. I think it's a good message to have but if it's going to be there, what I think is needed is a heading for the message. Perhaps this: "Port 7000 has 0 remaining" Server Offline! Us admins just have a tendancy to get a little more concerned about such things during rallies. Thanks, Gary Last fiddled with by gd_barnes on 2008-09-06 at 07:18 |

Thanks Gary for showing me what you were talking about.
First off, I was jesting, I never take anything seriously in a forum. ;) Second, I missed the Server Offline! part, I just didn't see it. Third, I have so many web sites/servers/ports/vnc/blah blah blah I'm not always going to not know where to look about half of the time. ![]() Fourth, I'm half blind and getting close to older than dirt so give an old phart a break, if I don't get it the second or third time... ;) Fifth, I can always be replaced by a younger generation without feeling hurt. ![]() Now that I've taken a 4th look, I think it is very weird and not sure why it looks like that. It should have never looked like that. I was only teasing Anon with it because he asked for it, then said it wouldn't be next week when he needed it, so it was my silly way of giving him some sh*t to put pressure on him to get on the ball. I'll take a peek at the script to see if I can remember what it was keying off to determine if a server is offline and get it fixed up. Oh, and never assume I know what you are talking about, as I surely have no clue what you guys are talking about related to math and especially primes. I am trying to be helpful to your project and sorry you got confused with the web page layout. Last fiddled with by IronBits on 2008-09-06 at 07:42 |

Now a Server / Port will report like so if knpairs.txt is empty or missing or no permissions.
--------------------------------------------------- Port 7000 has no knpairs.txt to work with! ---------------------------------------------------

Now that I've corrected the problem, this issue is resolved.
Thought I would share the humorous event I discovered. After going through the script to show the above error message, I finally figured out what the problem was that caused it in the first place. The directory was incorrectly spelled, and indeed was 'offline' ![]() I have changed the error message so we get a better clue what's wrong so I can fix it quicker. Thanks for bringing to my attention Gary.

Thanks David. Sorry if I seemed a little crass. I wasn't sure how to take your statements. ![]() The last I checked, old pharts have a lot more experience with this stuff then new pharts. Sorry, you can't pass the torch on to the next generation yet. ![]() Rock on and thanks for all that you do! Gary |

Hey IB
![]() Now I wouldn't want you to think that you are: 1. The only one here that is older than dirt, cause you aren't!! ![]() 2. The only one here that doesn't understand what these guys get talking about with all their math stuff... cause you aren't!! ![]() 3. The only one here that can't see the teensy printing on the screen... cause you aren't!! In fact I have two sets of glasses here at the desk that I have to rotate through depending on the time of day so I can read what I'm trying to see. ![]() 4, Last but not least, that you aren't the only old fart here trying to help the project that is really basically clueless about all t his stuff!! ![]() On the plus side, at least when you get to be an old fart you don't have any problem admitting that you don't know what they are talking about and arn't afraid to ask a question that obviously has a readily simple and aparent answer (at least to the younger generation(s)). ![]() Just sign me a *very* old guy. ![]() Bruce |

Awwwwwwwww, you guys are WAY too humble.
Both of you with your computer and server mumbo-jumbo tech speak makes my head spin. Anyone who knows me knows I'm in it for the math. All the computer and server tech-speak makes me want to run screaming for the exits.
