One of the exponents I was assigned was factored and then unreserved (before I remembered to adjust UnreserveDays in Prime.ini). SequentialWorkToDo=0, as well.
Well, after unreserving the exponent, computer still continued to factor the same exponent, and when finished, it left mXxxxxxxx file in Prime95 directory. What happened? I understand why it was unreserved, but not why computer continued to work on it afterwards. Can I get it back, please? ![]() ![]() P.S. When I said "factored", I meant it was running P-1 stage (before primality test). Last fiddled with by PrimeCroat on 2004-03-02 at 03:38 Reason: to clarify |

It is not high priority but I would appreciate some insight about the above question. Thank you.

What exactly were you testing ?
Was it a LL/DC that was doing the P-1 factoring pretest ? Did it send in the result of P-1 when it finished ? P-1 factoring does recieve (minimal) factoring credit and can be run independently of LL/DC, so unreserving may just unreserve the LL/DC part of the assignment if it is the exponent that is being worked on. One of the parameters for a LL/DC assignment is, has P-1 factoring already been done. SequentialWorktodo=0 has an effect of decoupling the factoring from the LL/DC tests by doing the all the factoring work first. |

[Sat Feb 28 07:19:25 2004 - ver 23.8] Sending result to server for exponent 33###### Sending text message to server: UID: PrimeCroat/Delirious, M33###### no factor to 2^68, WZ1: 449AE108 Unreserving exponent 33######. Then there is mX###### binary in Prime95 folder that was created on February 28, 2004, 7:48:01 AM (half an hour after unreserving the exponent). It got ureserved because when I played with settings I inadvertly checked vacation tab so the server gave me an extra exponent but the expected date to finish it was somewhere in Aug/Sept of 2004. I did get some credit for factoring so that was reported, I just don't understand why the exponent was still worked on even after it was unreserved and why I was left with the binary file. There is nothing in prime.log to indicate that P-1 testing was reported. What do I do with the binary file? Sorry for newbie question, I like to understand how things work. Thank you for the patience and your answers. Last fiddled with by PrimeCroat on 2004-03-09 at 00:13 Reason: To add and clarify |

From the output
UID: PrimeCroat/Delirious, M33###### no factor to 2^68, WZ1: 449AE108 It is very likely it was Trial Factoring not P-1 factoring. When getting a LL assignment it may do Trial Factoring (TF) first if it hadn't been TFed to the built in program limit. Sometimes it is only TFed to a lower amount and then given out. After the TFing is finished then the P-1 factoring is done. When P-1 factoring is finished the the Lucas-Lehmer (LL) test is done. A possible reason for a write to disk after the unreserving is the setting in Preferences -> Iterations between results file outputs: could be big enough to delay the write for half an hour. |
