DrKirkby quit Gimps because he wanted other people to do the higher trial factoring on some of the front-wave exponents that he scheduled to run the PRPs on, then had some issues about Cat 0 and 1 assignments. He had a lot of cores and memories, so P-1 were easier for him. Since I just got a new PC with a fast GPU, I could bring most of the M107M+ exponents up to 2^79 within the matters of several hours each now. I don't think anyone would care if I TF M105211111 up to 2^79 or 2^80, it's already a past history. If I had this new PC back half a year ago, the whole scenario would play out very differently. At least I could trade my GPU powers with DrKirkby's CPU powers, thus he wouldn't have that https://www.mersenneforum.org/showth...t=27037&page=3 TF M168M exponents from 2^80 to 2^81 will take me around 7 hours and 30 minutes which is about the same duration as 2^79 to 2^80 for M105211111. I checked a few links, but without the helps of other forum members, I didn't know how to contact DrKirkby again or does he not want to be contacted again? If not, then I may have to get a Threadripper Zen 4 Workstation with 32 CPU cores and Radeon 7900 XT in year 2024(The earliest month when my father will allow me to buy another new PC with the only exception: I land on a new Mersenne Prime) to make up for that. Let me know the total time to complete the P-1 of each exponent on your end. Those are tough and lengthy tasks, not very many users like to go after those.
The recommended bounds are listed on the following pages - https://www.mersenne.ca/exponent/168639323 https://www.mersenne.ca/exponent/168662323 https://www.mersenne.ca/exponent/168692323 B1=1,050,000, B2=40,000,000 will take only slightly longer than B1=1,050,000, B2=39,000,000 I used to run P-1 with the smaller B2 bound than the GPU72 recommendation for 1 exponent, then Ben Delo had to redo the entire P-1 when he got assigned the PRP. So what would it take for DrKirby to return to GIMPS? Why did he leave?

I sent him forum private messages many times without him responding back after he became inactive. I assumed it would notify his other emails that he had the new messages here. That was why I wondered whether he wanted not to be contacted again? Last fiddled with by tuckerkao on 2021-12-30 at 22:31 |
