Ballmer and Nadella make me want to say and do illegal things, which I won't, but anyhow...
I'm on Windows 10 because I like the idea of being able to buy Windows products, but Windows 10 does things that make me want to turn into a big green rage monster. I'm wondering how dangerous it would be to try to swallow up Windows into Linux and still have it work. Not a dual-boot, although flash drives make that way more attractive, but with Windows 10 as a virtual machine. And it can break certain things if it wants, like the adverts that exist in a product that I actually paid for.(!) |

Wish I'd edited better, forgot to delete that first sentence/paragraph.
My government file expands yet again. I know for a fact I have one because my schizophrenia makes me more likely to do random and bizarre things. Statistically, at least.(ducks away from the expected flaming) |

Do you want:
HostOS: Linux with Win10 in a VM. Or HostOS: Win10 with Linux in a VM? |

I haven't tried (win in linux) yet, but tried (win in win) and (linux in win) with VMs. Make the virtual disk big enough. Win10 didn't like 16GB for me.
If you are concerned about doing the Windows legally, i googled and you can (sometimes) transfer the key/activation?! Didn't expect that from MS. New sentence: you don't need a product key according to the internet for it to work=useable for testing, there are many miniscule limitations like themes, background, watermark.... Also, sorry for using google links, i know not everybody likes to use it. Last fiddled with by thyw on 2017-04-04 at 19:29 |

What I'm hoping to accomplish is to make Linux bootable on my other flash drive and then run the Windows I already have as a virtual machine. Probably need to do a bunch of research and back up first, but hopefully it's doable.

If you don't trust Microsoft and plan to keep Windows totally in a virtual environment, then why go with Windows 10? You should be able to do practically anything you would 'have' to do in Windows from an earlier version, like Windows 7.
