Bloody bastards! If you run AdBlock, the ads in question seem to be covered by Filter Preferences>Filter Subscriptions>Allow some non-intrusive advertising (check box).

Same here. Thanks to Ernst for calling attention to the situation.

I personally don't use Adblock anymore (as of several years ago): I've found the combination of FF builtin popup blocking and my standard "quiet reading" browser settings (Javascript only enabled for selected sites, no images unless I say, no animations unless I say, no noise unless I say, no Flash unless I say, no loud colors unless I say) to do all I need - but I don't pretend I'm anywhere near typical that way. |

More widely, Ben Edelman of the Harvard Business School keeps an eye on rogue practices on the Internet, and regular reports are available at http://www.benedelman.org/

Honestly, I've allowed Google's text ads through AdBlock Plus since I installed it. They are generally unobtrusive. All I really need to block are popups (annoying), pup-unders (spawn of the devil), and dotted-underline hovertext-insertion ads like Intellitext (KILL IT WITH FIRE). Blocking banner ads is nice but no big deal; text ads don't bother me.
I'm glad we have places to keep an eye on this, because it's certainly the kind of thing the public should know about. But honestly it's business as usual for me. |

I value being able to block a lot of ads, especially those which flash and dance around. Those kinds make it hard for me to concentrate on what I'm trying to read.

I prefer to operate like a poisonous viper.
If it doesn't move, I just ignore it. If it appears to be moving anywhere but away from me, ATTACK!!! Off-topic:I've watched a bit of snake-taming and concluded snakes operate a bit like lightning, if nothing is obviously sticking out at them from your body, you're probably okay. So definitely DON'T stick your hands in front of you. And that ends our Jason's ADD Moment of the Hour. |
