Posting this in case it helps someone - I found that Ghostery Midnight causes persistent CURL library errors when Prime95 tries to communicate with the server. One has to disable protection for Prime95 in Ghostery Midnight and then reboot to work around this problem.

Well, it looks like Ghostery Midnight may not be the culprit after all. The "fix" I posted in my previous post does not last - it works for a while, but then the error messages return. As a test, I enabled GM protection on Prime95 and rebooted. Communication with PrimeNet is now restored (for the moment at least), so it appears that just rebooting is the workaround for now.

Another update to the above - I have now uninstalled Ghostery Midnight and communication with PrimeNet is now normal again, so it is definitely GM that was the problem. It seems that rebooting only works for a one-time communication with PrimeNet, after that, the errors resume and one has to reboot again to "fix" the issue.
