And, gah! Why must he be remembered first and foremost for Peter Jackson's interminable CGI-crapfest film series? I always think first of his portrayal of the android Ash in Alien: "I admire them for their purity."

Exactly, and he was memorable in Brazil, too...

(in a film like Brazil it is very tough to match Pythons at a pythonesque game level and he did just fine!)

Wow, that's a strange feeling: being reminded of a film that you saw 35 years ago!

Would it be rude to ask posters-of-links-to-obits to add a few words describing what the person was known for? I mean, an obit of a famous British rubgy player of the 1950s might be interesting to UK readers, but as a non-UK-er I honestly couldn't give a rat's patootie. I have only so many hours a day to click links and read articles.

So e.g. Paul's one above - too hard to follow the link with "designer of the I [heart] NY logo"? The agonies of the carpal tunnel kicking in on those extra chars?

@my above - No, not rude at all. Posting-links-without-context, that's what rude. The one exception is cases where the link URL itself provides the context.

Agreed. A preface would be greatly appreciated.

"Who are you, Master?" he asked.
"Eh, what?" said Tom sitting up, and his eyes glinting in the gloom.
"Don't you know my name yet? That;s the only answer."
