On May 2010, we started a subproject to sieve n=1M candidates for twins and Sophie Germains. After careful consideration, we've decided to start LLRing them on November 11. It roughly coincides with the time the n=666666 primes will no longer be on the top 5000 list, and the sieve depth for n=1M is higher than the sieve depth of the variable-n range we're currently working on. Besides, the starting date of 11/11/11 sounds pretty catchy.
At TPS, we believe that the best way to start something is to hit the ground running and shooting. That means we'll be launching this subproject with a two day rally. Lennart and the PrimeSearchTeam won the previous three rallies, so let's see whether they can maintain their streak. As a guideline, a fast quad core can complete 10 k/n pairs per hour. If one number (66555*2^1000000-1, for example) is prime, three other k/n pairs will be checked. In this example, 66555*2^1000000+1 will be checked for twins, and both 66555*2^999999-1 and 66555*2^1000001-1 will be checked for sophies. To participate, connect to the www.noprimeleftbehind.net server. We'll let you know which port it'll be on by November 8. The candidates we'll be testing during the rally will have ~301,000 digits and will enter the top 5000 primes list at rank ~1000. If you find a prime, you'll need to submit it to the Prime Pages under a prover account that has your name, LLR, TPS, and NewPGen. If you prefer the short ~4 minute testing times of the current variable-n range effort, don't panic - both projects will be available after the rally is over. Different strokes for different folks ![]() edit: The rally has been postponed to November 15-16 since the new PRPNet server was not set up by the 10th. We'll be on port 13000. No.
I've already tried to contact Max, but he hasn't responded. Gary (gd_barnes) told me that he can set up an LLRNet server for us, but he said that Max is the only person who can create a new PRPNet server. If the PRPNet server isn't set up 24 hours before the start of the rally, it'll be postponed to November 15-16. If it still isn't set up by then, we'll hold the rally anyway and have it on LLRNet instead. |

Hope it will be a PRPnet-Server, I will not crunch at LLRNet.
Maybe Lennart can help out to create a PRPnet Port. Regards Odi |

The server is up and running on noprimeleftbehind.net port 13000--see here for more details. As mentioned over there, I do apologize if I "scared" anyone by getting the server set up this late...I had a rather tricky balance of offline work to juggle over the last week, but knew it would all be wrapped up today such that I'd have plenty of time to get the server set up before the rally.
I see the rally has been postponed until next week--again, my apologies for the late setup prompting this. Oddball, if you want to go ahead and do the rally on the 11th as planned, everything is ready to go; though now that it's been changed it might be preferable not to change it again so as to avoid confusion. My guess is that you'll want to show the port # in the first post here. I don't see it.
