Default Prime95 and Office 365 conflict

It has been a while but ...

I built my box July 2014 and it has been trouble free all the time since then. I also configured with success the then current version of P95 and ran in manual mode since then, also trouble free. I installed office 97, which in recent weeks had become corrupt and did bizarre things to my main work spreadsheets. Yesterday I installed office 365, observed that all was right but I would have to learn new settings etc. I had exited p95 in case of reboots, forgot to turn it back on, then stopped my spreadsheet work for some drinks time. My brother noted my cpu fan was silent, so I ran it again - fine.

Next morning I began work early and excel immediately conflicted with p95 in a serious manner It became slow and unresponsive, even freezing up. I noticed when it froze it had been trying to auto save my file to some "cloud" somwhere. It messed up p95 bad, as totally corrupt and dysfuntional. I tried to install the latest version, but it modified my ini stuff, and worktodo. Now after fixing worktodo and some settings it outputs :"waitingfor work".

Later I changed many excel settings and got it to work again. P95 no luck.

Any ideas?

I will have to a clean new install of p95,maybe later as this kind of event makes me drink heavily.

I have been computing since 1994 and p95 since 2000 and have never seen this type of destructive interference. Grrrr.

Cheers,

PF out.

Make sure Prime95 is not in "Program Files" That will mess it up in later versions of Windows. Office may have issues with this too.

MSOffice$$$

Open Office $0.00 https://www.openoffice.org/

Office 97 is 23 years old and has been out of maintenance for probably more than a decade, so app-based viruses/vulnerabilities go unaddressed.
Office365 requires paying annual rent.
OpenOffice has excellent import/export for many file types and comparable features and no rent/purchase cost.

Are you sure Prime95 is running at idle priority? I never experienced it interfering with any other program.

You could use: PauseWhileRunning=excel
in prime.txt.

From undoc.txt:

Code:
In rare cases, users have reported the program can interfere with the
performance of some programs such as disk defragmenters and some games.
You can pause the program automatically when these programs are running by
adding this line to prime.txt:
	PauseWhileRunning=prog1[n1],prog2[n2],etc
The [n1], [n2] values are optional and indicate the number of worker threads
to pause when prog1 and prog2 are running. The default value for n1 and n2
is to pause all worker threads. Note that the program will pause if the program
name matches any part of the running program's file name. That is "foobar"
will match "c:\foobar.exe", "C:\FOOBAR\name.exe", and even "C:\myfoobarprog.exe".
Also, if prog1 is "*" the program will pause no matter what. Examples:
	PauseWhileRunning=*[1] during 6-7/2:00-3:00
	PauseWhileRunning=* during 23:00-24:00 else decomp[1],mygame[2]
The first example pauses one worker thread on Saturday and Sunday between
2AM and 3AM. The second example pauses all workers between 11PM and 12AM and
pauses 1 worker if decomp is running and 2 if mygame is running.

"Your" data is now owned by some corp. Now you have to hope the corp continues to allow you to access it. And that they don't sell it to other "business partners".

Agreed! I switched to Libre a long time back, from Open Office and like it much more.

It's rare, but I've seen it cause trouble where actual ram, or worse, virtual memory is getting maxed out.
