2004-05-17, 11:09 #1 tmorrow     Jan 2004 10310 Posts How Can I Change The Computer ID I recently hooked up my old P2 450 to join GIMPS, so I now have two machines going at it hammer and tongs :-) Following the instructions in the Help document I copied over the prime95 files from my main machine minus 2 ini files and fired up the app. Primenet immediately assigned me an exponent to doublecheck AND a totally crappy, meaningless computer ID. I changed the computer ID through the app menu "Test | User Information" to something I can relate to. I then tried to force a trip to the PrimeNet server via "Advanced | Manual Primenet Communication". Despite this, even after several days the PrimeNet report identifies my old computer with the useless computer ID. I have been unable to find a resolution to this problem after searching through much documentation at GIMPS and PrimeNet. How can I change the computer ID and have PrimeNet recognise it properly? Thanks, Tim

Hi Tim!

Did you try to set up the same user ID for both computers? This way they'll appear to work for the same "team". For the change to be settled, you have to stop, exit the Prime95 application and then restart it.

I downloaded the latest Primenet status.txt file and searched for your name (guessing that you are using the same name here, which seems to be the case). There one can find the line Code: prime fact current days exponent bits iteration run / to go / exp date updated date assigned account ID computer ID -------- -- ---- --------- ----------------- --------------- --------------- -------------- ------------ 11922847 D 65 12.2 34.8 75.8 05-May-04 14:55 tmorrow C04793527 (where I also included the headers). It shows that it hasn't been updated since it was assigned. Otherwise "date updated" would show the date you communicated (after one hour when the status file has been updated). So was your connection working when you tried to communicate? Did you get any error messages from the server?

The last log entry is when it "got exponent from server". My Internet connection is fine. I'm using Internet Connection Sharing and the worker PC can browse the Internet etc., plus it had no problems getting assigned work from PrimeNet in the 1st place. Maybe a manual trip to the server doesn't count as an update? Thanks, Tim
