Arrow Formatting during factoring

Hi, I'm 63.2% through my hopefully prime number and I want to format my computer, reinstall prime and continue working on this number - Can someone please tell me if that's possible and how? I tried searching the forums but couldn't find an answer.

If you are using Windows do the following:

Stop prime95 by doing Test -> Stop ( from the menu )

Backup the whole directory that prime95.exe and the data files are in.
Usually C:\Program Files\Prime95 but it could be different.
It may take as much as 8 or 9 MB so you need something that holds about 8 floppy disks worth.
A CD-R or Zip Disk will do.

When Windows is back running, restore the Prime95 directory with all the files and prime95.exe

Run Prime95.exe

When restoring from CD (or anything that could possible set the attributes to read-only) be sure to uncheck the read-only for all the files in the restored prime95 directory.

Default sorry for not coming back for answer

Actually I'm just formatting the OS drive, so backing stuff up isn't a problem. But it interests me - does the Prime95 installation only installs files and doesn't update the registry? (in other words, can I just copy files and run the program?)

Yes. The only Information stored in the registry is the command to run Prime95 at bootup. I don't know if this is tested each time Prime95 starts, but if you uncheck and recheck the "Start at Bootup" option in the "Options" menu, the corresponding entry is properly restored. Any other Information is entirely stored in the Prime95 directory.

Cheers,

Benjamin

It seems to be my experience that Prime95 does check. This is from experience with NT based machines and various users.
