well it is a little late, but i must state my disapproval of advertisements on the forums. Advertisements take a forum to a level that makes it feel like a .com, not a .org.

Apparently Google's search and page-ranking technology doesn't have any advertisers related to our forum anyway. The best Google's, "award-winning" search tech. can come up with for April 29th, 2004 is:

"Very Funny Laughing Pen"
"20 Seconds of Hilarious Laughter A great Gift For The Holidays"
"kiwidirect.com"

Hey! while i am waiting for my mersenne prime to show up, i could play with my laughing pen .

I have an almost pathological hatred of adverts but I have to admit that these are so discrete that they don't cause me any offense at all. As long as they don't turn out to be "the thin end of the wedge" I've no objection.

We won't have a true average for a few weeks, but so far we are doing a little under $3 a day...

Please continue to comment on this... Nothing is set in stone...

Hehee, I don't mind the ads at all either but they are a little strange somtimes. I guess Google thinks that I am Jewish and in need of a partner because all the ads were Jewish dating and singles sites.

A small modification... If you are registered and logged in, you will only see an ad at the bottom now... The ads at the top only appear if you are a guest...

Still fine tuning the ads...

Setting the ads only at the bottom yielded only 2 clicks a day...

So as a test we now have a smaller ad at the top... It uses a lot less vertical space than the previous ad...

We'll see how that works for a few days...

I have been absent from the forum recently. I haven't been here in like a month, and I didn't realize the ads were there until I read this thread :). I was reading the thread thinking when he was going to decide to activate them (because I didn't remember seeing them). Hehe. I'll peak at them occasionally to see if they are anything interesting, but one glance didn't look relevant.

Context seems to be working...
(maybe this file is larger than what is approriate for a small joke; how should I compress a bmp file so that it is still simple to view?)
[Edit: I can't see my attachment. Is it because bmp was not in the list of attachments? Well, it was just an image of a post by PrimeCruncher (whose location is Borg HQ, Delta Quadrant) with the ads showing links to Star Trek: Borg Invasion etc.]

patrik,

(good joke)
The [ img] tags have never worked well for me. It is better to use the attachment manager, even for images - it will put them in-line. If that's what you used, I have no clue...

BTW Mike, I am still getting the error (see my previous post). The only effect is that I see no ads.
